The Bluebird Cafe, Cannonmills

Imagine scones the size of your head. Scones filled with Nutella and banana slices. Fluffy buttermilk pancakes with pecans and apricots. A baked goods display that boggles the mind. Plus a pretty decent fry-up too, if that’s what you’re into.

Yes to Saturday brunch at the Bluebird:

You can’t argue with a spread like that, can you?

If you haven’t visited the Bluebird Cafe in Cannonmills yet, you’re missing out. In a space that easily could be (and probably at some point was) someone’s living room, snuggle into a corner and unwind to a delightful selection of country music while your order arrives.

You’ll have time to discover all the memorabilia owner Kylie Macgregor collected during her lengthy road trips into the Deep South, on the back of a Harley. She brought back with her a true love for country music and real southern hospitality. The lunch offerings certainly show this influence, but it also shines through in their weekend brunch menu.

Those pecan and apricot pancakes were just divine, and something I’ll definitely have to go back for. The Nutella & banana filled scones also keep me up at night. No doubt I’ll have plenty of time to sample all their menu – with the Bluebird being so close, I’d wager I’ll be a regular brunch customer.
