This year I made a promise to myself that I’ll do a lot more on the Fringe. Somewhere back in 2012 or ’13 I challenged myself to be out for at least a half pint, every single night during the three weeks. It worked out great and that was probably my best Fringe yet — so I knew that for 2015 I wanted to do something in a similar vein.
Who has the money (or time, or energy?) to be out every single night for three weeks these days though? Not me. So I set the mark at a week only and tonight was the kickoff of sorts.
Although I didn’t watch a show, I joined the Boy and some of his pals for dinner followed by a few drinkies in the heart of the festival, before they headed out to Shit-faced Shakespeare at the Udderbelly. I saw this last year and once was enough. :)
Bristo Square is dug up, so all purple-hued cow humour had to be re-located to the taboo side of George Square this year. I have to say the whole venue looks fantastic, way better than its Bristo Sq days.
Once it was time to queue up, I bid my group good-bye and went for a wander.
The Udderbelly looked like the coziest place to sit around (and such a warm night too!), but the Spiegeltent side of George Square provided more photo opps and a generally nicer atmosphere for a loner like me to hang about.
If I didn’t have to get up for work in the morning, or I was single, I may have sat around for a lot longer just to see where the night might take me.
As for the rest of the week, I have a pretty plan worked out, and a bunch of shows to go see – but more on that tomorrow.
